DU VC condoles death of Dr Abdur Rashid

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique today expressed profound shock at the death of former DU teacher and eminent academician Dr Abdur Rashid Purkayastha.

In a condolence message, he said Dr Rashid was a brilliant teacher. Dhaka University would remember his contribution to establish DU Pharmacy department, a DU press release said.

The vice-chancellor also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Dr Rashid was born in Sunamganj in 1935 and obtained his Ph. D degree from Ottawa University of Canada.

He started his professional life at DU in 1973 and served the university as the founder chairman of the Pharmacy department.

Later, in 1975 he left the country for New Jersey in United State where he was known as a prominent chemist.

Dr Rashid breathed his last on October 2 at a hospital in New Jersey at the age of 81.

He is survived by three daughters, a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, the release added.
