Education minister seeks DCs’ support to fight militancy

Staff Reporter |

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday sought supports from divisional and deputy commissioners to fight militancy which has been introduced and nourished among the students in the country.

The local administration could play a vital role in curbing militancy at initial stage, he said while addressing the three-day annual DC conference at the secretariat began on the day.

Nahid, however, gave a different thought over a proposal of DCs to fix educational standards for the chairmen and members of the managing committees of non-government schools and colleges.

He said that the managing committees were constituted comprising local elites, political personnel and representatives from different organisations. There are many educated people who are not capable of running such managing committees.

He also said that the DCs were directed with their responsibilities to improve educational standards, formation of managing committees and that to end private tutoring by the teachers.

The session specified for the education ministry was presided over by the cabinet secretary Shafiul Alam that ends at 8:00 pm.

Earlier at 9:00 am, prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the tree-day DC conference at her office.
