Govt to fund for ibtedayi madrasha teachers’ remunerations

Staff Reporter |

The government has decided to bring all independent ibtedayi madrashas, Islamic religion-based institutions offering primary level education, under its financial support scheme.

Independent ibtedayi madrasahs offer education from class I to V and such institutions were established by private initiatives.

All the teachers of about 7,000 independent ibtedayi madrashas would get the benefits in monthly remunerations.

Once the government’s decision is implemented, a head teacher of such madrasha would receive Tk 2,500 and an assistant teacher would receive Tk 2,300 per month in remunerations.

Teachers of only 1,519 independent ibtedayi madrashas are receiving the government aid indiscriminately at the rate of Tk 1,200 per month while approximately 30,000 teachers of about 5,500 madrashas do not receive any financial aid from the government.

In Bangladesh, aliya madrasahas are regulated and aided by the government but qawmi madrasahas are not controlled or aided.

District education officers were asked to send reports with the information about the teachers to the Directorate of Madrasha Education by July 25 in this regard, said officials. The information covers the educational qualifications, appointment and joining of the teachers.

In 2013, the Awami League-led government last time increased the remunerations to Tk 1,200 from Tk 500 per month for the teachers of a small section of independent ibtedayi madrashas.

Independent Ibtedayi Madrasha Teachers Association president Mowlana SM Jainul Abedin Jehadi and secretary general Md Shamsul Huq expressed their gratitude to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina for increasing the remunerations of the teachers in phases.
