Govt to regulate ‘cadet’ madrasas

Staff Reporter |

The government has taken initiatives to regulate ‘cadet’ madrasas by asking them to obtain a government approval within three months to continue their academic activities.

The madrasas will be under the surveillance of Directorate of Madrasha Education, Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board, District Education Officer, Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Upazila Education Officer.

In a letter issued on Sunday, the technical and madrasa education division of education ministry also asked to drop two words — Cadet and International — from the names of such madrasas.

Performing national anthem and hoisting national flag on regular basis has been made mandatory at the madrasa campuses.

Furthermore, the madrasa authorities were asked to follow and use the curriculum and text books recommended by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board and the Bangladesh Madrasha Education Board, said officials.

Following instructions of the prime minister’s office, the education ministry pursued a total of 11 decisions regarding the madrasas which had been carrying out their academic activities without any government approval, the letter said.

Observing all national days and inclusion of, at least, a district or upazilla education officer in all madrasa governing bodies has also been made mandatory.

The other decisions include obtaining registration from Madrasa Education Board, fixing tuition fees of the students like secondary schools and auditing on a regular basis.
