Increased number of science-minded students stressed

Speakers at a seminar here have observed that substantial and sustainable boosting the number of science-minded students and youths has become indispensable for flourishing the sector of information and communication technology.

They opined that increasing the number of science-minded students with ICT knowledge could be effective means of ensuring their better contribution to the development process of the country.

Commissioner Office of Rajshahi Division organized the seminar titled “Role of National Science and Technology Museum for Development of Science-minded Nation” at Circuit House conference hall in Rajshahi city yesterday.

Director General of National Science and Technology Museum Swapan Kumar Roy and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury addressed the seminar as chief and special guests respectively with Helaluddin Ahmed, Commissioner of Rajshahi division, in the chair.

During his welcome speech, Munir Hossain, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General), narrated the aspects of the seminar and urged all quarters to extend their whole-hearted cooperation for marking it a total success.

Pro-vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman and Prof Dr Shahiduzzaman from Computer Science and Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology also spoke.

Chief Guest Swapan Kumar Roy viewed there is no way but to wide-ranging promotion of the science and technology sector to take forward the nation successfully. The young generation will sure take the nation one-step forward through improving the technological area and all of us should create an enabling situation for them in this regard, he added.

He referred to various aspects of expanding science education towards doorsteps of both rural and urban students and said there is no alternative of acquiring scientific knowledge to devise ways and means on how to make the nation technologically advanced.

“To build science-minded atmosphere: technology is only the way of progress- should be our main slogan,” he asserted.
