Jashore madrassah student recovers from injuries

Desk Report |

Jashore madrassah student Md Shahin Morol, 15, who was critically injured in the attack on Friday morning and underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday, was recovering from injuries in the hospital on Tuesday.

‘Shahin’s life support was put off on Monday but he is still on oxygen support. He is now suffering from fever and responds to calls. We are hopeful about him,’ an on-duty doctor at the Intensive Care Unit of DMCH told New Age on Tuesday afternoon.

He said that the hospital authorities had been providing his treatment, medicines and other accessories at free of cost.

Shahin, son of Haider Ali Morol of village Mangalcoat under Keshabpur in Jashore and a student of Class VII of Golghata Dakhil Madrassah under the upazila, used to drive a rickshaw-van to help his family.

Impersonating passengers, the assailants took away his rickshaw-van, mobile and money by beating him up.

They left him unconscious at Dhandia of Patkelghata in Tala upazila of Satkhira.

Shahin was rescued by locals who called the police and took Shahin to Satkhira Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Relatives found him lying on a bed at the hospital in the evening, Shahin’s uncle Mansur Ali Morol told New Age.

KMCH doctors referred him to DMCH where the family admitted him at about 10:00pm on Saturday.

Shahin underwent a surgery in his head in the early hours of Sunday and was shifted to ICU, DMCH doctors said.

The incident went viral on social media and created outrage among people.

Correspondent in Satkhira, quoting Patkelghata police station officer-in-charge Rezaul Islam, reported that the police placed the three arrested suspects — Naimul Islam Nayeem, 24, a neighbour of victim Shahin, Arshad Par alias Nunu Mistri, 65, of village Mirzapur under Kalaroa in Satkhira and Baker Ali, 45, of village Jhaudanga under Sadar upazila in Satkhira — before Satkhira additional chief judicial magistrate Humayun Kabir Tuesday morning.

Of them, victim’s neighbour Naimul made confession to the court saying that he planned to hijack Shahin’s rickshaw-van by beating him in an isolated place and accordingly committed the crime, the OC said.

He said that the other suspects bought parts of the van.

Nazrul said that the court sent the suspects to jail after recording Naimul’s statement.

Shahin’s father Haider Ali filed a case with the Patkelghata police station on Saturday without naming anyone, the OC said.
