They are — Mahitosh Roy, Ikram Uddin aka Omi, Ikram Nahid, Shairf Hossain aka Lashkar and Riazul Islam — members of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s (BCL) JU unit.

The decision was taken on Monday at an emergency syndicate meeting.

The registrar of the university, Abu Bakr Siddique, confirmed this to reporters.

On 8 June, the JU correspondent of bdnews24.com, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, was assaulted by some BCL activists while he was collecting news.
