Non-government honours-masters college teachers demanded to the government to include them in the monthly pay order (MPO) system and warned that if this doesn’t happen within two months, they would launch a tough agitation program.

Kazi Mohammad Faruque, president of the organization presided over the programe where a countrywide alliance of 5,500 teachers from 494 non-government colleges, raised the demand at a rally in front of the National Press Club.

He said that they gave the memorandum to the Prime Minister to meet their demand or they would launch countrywide work abstention.MPO2

He said that almost two lakh non-government college students’ study would be hampered if the government does not meet their demands. Speaking at the rally, he also called for removing the salary discrimination between teachers of government and non-government colleges though they were fulfilling the same requirements and same responsibilities.

General Secretary of the organization Kazi Kamruzzaman said that the college managing committees were taking all earnings from student’s monthly tuition fees and depriving the teachers by paying them low salary, at the highest Tk. 8,000/-.

He urged the government to take the financial management of colleges from the managing committees for ensuring teachers’ rights. Azizul Haque, one of the participants at the rally, said that they were demanding ninth grade salary, which was fixed at Tk. 22,000/- in the new pay structure.

Leaders of non-government colleges teachers spoke at the rally attended by 3,500 teachers, the organization president Faruque said. After the rally, four leaders from teachers’ organization went to the prime minister’s office to submit a memorandum. A responsible officer from PM office received the memorandum, the organization president Faruque confirmed.
