Nurul Huq VP, Golam Rabbani GS of DUCSU

Nurul Huq Nur of Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakshan Parishad has been elected vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union while Golam Rabbani and Saddam Hossain of Bangladesh Chhatra League have been elected general secretary and assistant general secretary.
 
Dhaka University vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman announced the results from Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban around 3:20am on Tuesday amid protests by the supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
 
The vice-chancellor said Nurul Huq Nur got 11,062 votes while his nearest rival candidate Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon bagged 9,129 votes.
 
Nur is a student of English department of the university. He is also joint convener of Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakshan Parishad, which led the protests for reforms in the quota system in government jobs in 2018.
 
Nur also came under attack allegedly by the activists of BCL at Ruqayyah Hall on Monday for protesting against irregularities. He is now undergoing treatment at a hospital.
 
Meanwhile, Shovon's followers rejected the results for the VP post and demonstrated in front of the VC's residence. Additional police have been deployed on the campus. Eight among nine secretary posts went to candidates from BCL panel.
 
The winners from the BCL panel are freedom fighters affairs secretary Saad bin Kader, science and technology secretary Arif Ibn Ali, common room and cafeteria secretary BM Lipi Akter, international affairs secretary Shahrima Tanjima Arni, literature secretary Mazharul Kabir Shawon, cultural secretary Asif Talukder, sports secretary Shakil Ahmed Tanvir and students transport secretary Shams e Noman.
 
Akhter Hossain from quota reform movement panel won the post of social services.
 
The 13 elected members are Yashio Sangma Chibol, Nazrul Islam, Rakibul Hasan, Rakibul Islam Oitijjo, Tanvir Hasan Saikot, Raisa Naser, Sabrina Eti, Nipu Islam Tanni, Saiful islam Rasel, Tilottama Sikder, Farida Parvin, Mahmudul Hasan and Md Rafiqul Islam Sabuj.
 
Most of the contesting panels on Monday boycotted midway through the long-awaited elections to the Dhaka University Students’ Union and hall unions marred by allegations of attacks on contestants, ballot stuffing, obstacles in the queues and administrative failure. 
 
Of the 13 contesting panels, Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya, Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakshan Parishad, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Swatantra Jote, Chhatra Federation, Swadhikar Swatantra Prishad and Islami Shasantantra Chhatra Andolan announce boycott midway through the polling protesting at the alleged vote rigging by the ruling Awami League’s student body Bangladesh Chhatra League. Bangladesh Chhatra Maitree also rejected the polls and demanded re-elections.
