Nusrat murder: PBI to press charges against 16 people

Desk Report |

Police Bureau of Investigation deputy inspector general Banaj Kumar Majumder on Tuesday said that they would press charges against 16 people in Nusrat murder case before the court on Wednesday.

‘16 people, including madrassah principal SM Sirajuddoula and local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin, were involved in the killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi,’ he added. The PBI official made the statements while briefing reporters at its Dhanmondi headquarters.

He said that during long investigation, they found the involvement of 16 people in the arson attack on the madrassah girl that led to her death. Of them, 12 gave confessional statements before the court, he said, adding that they sought highest punishment for the accused.

The PBI chief said a total of 92 people have been made witnesses in the case and seven of them have already testified before the court.

On April 6, Nusrat was set afire at an examination centre allegedly by people loyal to the principal of her madrassah after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as she had accused him of sexually harassing her in Sonagazi upazila of Feni.

She lost her battle for life on April 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
