President, PM pay tribute to Bangabandhu

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday morning (August 15) paid deep homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of his 42nd death anniversary and the National Mourning Day.

Hamid placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 at around 6:33am, followed by Sheikh Hasina.

After the placing of wreaths, a smartly turned out contingent of Bangladesh Armed Forces gave an honour guard as bugle played the last post.

The President and the Prime Minister, also the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation, stood in solemn silence in front of the portrait for some time.

Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and martyrs of August 15.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Justice also paid tribute to Bangabandhu.

Later, Sheikh Hasina, as president of Awami League, placed another floral wreath along with top leaders of her party.
