Protesting students start returning home: Quader

Desk Report |

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the agitating students who took to streets for safe roads have started returning home responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Most of the protesting students have returned home. We have accepted their nine-point demands and started implementing those,” he told a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office here.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir supported the remarks of his party’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowhdury and it proved BNP hatched conspiracy to take advantage of the students’ movement capitalizing on the non-political movement of the students.

The minister said general students did not carry arms while taking to the streets as they had no political motive. The students have no agenda to carry out attack on AL president’s office, he added.

Quader said Amir Khashru’s instigating message had spread across the country and youth cadre group of BNP-Jamaat assembled in Dhaka under the direction.

He said the Cabinet today approved the road transport law and it will be finalized through different procedures later.

The minister said the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry has taken a programme to keep open all offices of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) including the headquarters to provide all urgent services including issuing of fitness certificates, driving licenses and renewal of license.
