Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof Abdul Mannan said qualitative and quantitative education has become indispensable for transforming the country’s huge young people into skilled human resources.

He opined that need-based and time-fitting education can be the vital means of reducing the gradually mounting number of educated job-seekers, Prof Mannan made this observation while addressing the ‘Shaheed Dr Shamsuzzoha Memorial Speech’ at senate building of Rajshahi University here on Tuesday (27th Feb) as chief guest.

In the world jobless indicator, Bangladesh stands at 12th. Every year, around 20 lakh workable people are entering into labour market, Prof Mannan added.

Side by side with this, around six lakh foreigners are sending Taka 50,000 crore to their respective countries through working in Bangladesh every year, he said.

With Chairman of Department of Chemistry Prof Belayet Hossain Hawlader in the chair, RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha also spoke.

Public universities will get Taka four crore every year for quality improvement of research, he added.

On February 18, 1969, Dr Shamsuzzoha was shot dead by Pakistani military junta in front of the RU main gate as he rushed there to protect the students marching towards the town violating Section 144.
