Some students of Art faculty of Rajshahi University overturned more than hundred of sculptures made by their fellows on the campus early Tuesday (18th April) demanding preservation and mending of their art works.
Yusuf Ali Sajib, a Masters student of Ceramic and scripture department, this morning told that he along with some of his friends overturned the sculptures.
They had been demanding for proper steps to renovate and preserve the sculptures but the university authority failed to take any initiative, he said.
‘We overturned the sculptures protesting at the matter,’ he said.
One of Yusuf’s fellow classmate Imran Hossain said that the Art faculty is situated almost outside the Rajshahi University campus.
‘We demanded for a boundary wall around the faculty as outsiders frequently step inside it triggering chaos’, he alleged.
But no step was also taken by the authorities in this regard, he said.
Meanwhile, professor Malay Kumar Bhowmick of Management department said ‘Students can show protest by human-chain or demonstration. But this kind of protest is unacceptable and regrettable’.
