The Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Iqbal Mahmud on Sunday found most of the teachers of different educational institutions of Chattogram during a sudden visit. ACC chairman visited three schools of Chattogram as per complaints those said most of the teachers remain absent at schools in Chattogram hampering the education of children.
He said that at any cost education should be ensured at schools and colleges and none will be allowed to destroy the future of the children. If necessary, the commission will enforce the section 166 in this regard, he said.
Around 9:15am, he reached Kattali Nurul Haque Chowdhury Primary School and surprised to see all parents and students were out of the classrooms and passing their time by having snacks from nearby tea stalls during class hours. He found seven out of eight teachers absent in the school except the acting head master. Parents vented their anguish and dissatisfaction on their children’s studies to the ACC chairman. Then he visited Bhatiary Government Primary School and found two among 11 teachers absent.
The school authority failed to show any ground of their absence. Then the chairman checked students’ attendance and there was no roll call till 10:00am. Students who were present on the previous day were shown present on Sunday. The school authority failed to give any reply in this regard.
At Shitalpur High School, Iqbal expressed his satisfaction knowing that the school authority did not allow any student to sit for SSC examination who did not pass the examination for selecting candidates of the school for the secondary finals.
But the school allowed the students who did not pass in one or two subjects in class-IX to be promoted to class X by taking Tk 2,000. ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmud said that this is unfair. ‘orruption must not take place in educational institutions.’
