Seventy proxy examinees jailed

A mobile court on Friday sentenced 70 persons for fifteen days on charges of acting as ‘proxy’ candidates at a recruitment test at Agricultural Extension Department under Agriculture Ministry held on Friday morning.

Earlier, At least 80 persons including four of Dhaka University were arrested from various exam centers in the city and placed before the mobile court on the premises of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of DU.

The court awarded 70 persons for 15 days imprisonment and later sent them to Dhaka Central Jail, the rest were released for not being involved in the matter.

The sources said, the hour- long MCQ exam stared from 10:00am at various exam centers in the capita conducted by IBA of DU. After starting the exam, the on- duty officers at the respective exam halls held them.

Confirming the matter, Abu Bakar Siddique, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh police station told that the mobile court sentenced seventy persons for 15 days imprisonment.

“Jailed persons were sent to Dhaka Central Jail and ten of them were released as their involvement was not proved, he added

DU Acting Proctor Prof Amzad Ali said that four of them are the current student of Dhaka University.

While contacted with the Director of IBA Professor Saiful Majid could not give further information. He asked to follow the press note of the respective ministry.
