Shujan Mahmud of Mass Communication and Journalism has been elected as President and Gazi Sheikh Farid Ahmmad of Soil Science as General Secretary in the 2023 executive committee election of Dhaka University Friends Alliance (DUFA), the largest organization among the batch-based friend organizations of Dhaka University.
Besides, KM Manzoor-e-Alam Bipu of Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences was elected Finance Treasurer unopposed. The two candidates who won the post of president and general secretary were Md. Golam Sarwar Himan of the Department of Geology and Delwar Hossain of Soil Science (Miraj Mithu) respectively.
The 14 member representatives who won the election are Muhammad Mahbub Rahman Shanto of Geology, Mohammad Mahbub Quaisar of Social Sciences, Yeasmin Akter Eva of Political Science, Md. Hamidul Isram of Islamic Studies, Mohammad Mazharul Haq of Accounting and Information Systems, Majba Ahmed Tutul of Statistics, Leather Engineering and Md. Ashraf Ul Alam of Technology, Shamali Begum of Social Science, Mohammad Saiful Hassan of Marketing, Amirul Islam Amu of Soil Science, Abdul Kader of Chemistry, Mohammad Hasanuzzaman Patwary of Islamic Studies and Shoaib Ahmed Chowdhury of Applied Statistics.
Professor Riazul Islam, election commissioner of DUFA, officially announced the results of the two-day online election on December 15, 2023. At that time, the other two election commissioners are the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and the Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation, Mushtaq Ahmed and the teacher of Birshrestha Munsi Abdur Rauf Public School & College, Kazi Musfika Rita, the election observers are Professor Ahmed Bashir of DU English Dept. and Barrister Kamrun Mahmud Deepa.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that out of 690 registered voters, 601 members exercised their voting rights as a percentage which is more than 87 percent. So far, representatives of 15 subjects have been nominated. The election commissioner's duty will be completed by electing other subject representatives before 29 December 2023, taking oath of the full committee of DUFA and handing over the official responsibility of the old committee to the new committee.
