Sonagazi AL president held over Nusrat murder

Police Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested Sonagazi upazila unit Awami League president Ruhul Amin over the murder of Feni madrassah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi at Takia Bazar of Sonagazi in Feni.

Ruhul was also the vice chairman of the governing body of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrassah where Nusrat studied.

The investigation officer of the case and Police Bureau of Investigation inspector M Shah Alam said based on statements by some accused the murder case they had arrested one in the afternoon. He said media will be informed later of the arrest.

Nusrat was set afire on the rooftop of the administrative building of the madrassah on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case against Siraj-ud-Doula, principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrassah over sexual assault on her in March.

She died from the injuries at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10.

Nusrat’s bother Mahmudul Hasan Noman had field case with Songazi police station on Aril 8 accusing eight people for setting Nusran on fire.

Police have arrested 18 people including eight named in the first information report. Among them, four made confessional statement before court and the remaining 14 are on police remand.
