Students in science increased due to govt’s initiative: Nahid

Nurul-Islam-nahid-nwbEducation Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the number of students in science group has been increasing over the last four years due to the government’s time-befitting initiatives to encourage the students about science.

“The government has taken various initiatives to check the decreasing of science group students”, he said while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of two-day science fair at Scholastica School in Uttara here, said a press release.

The minister said the government has appointed skilled teachers under Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project (SEQAEP) on temporary basis across the country to remove the fear of Mathematics, Science and English from backward poor students.

Now, the government is giving handsome salary to the teachers by considering the success of the project though it was according to the number of classes, he added.

He said the initiative of appointing teachers will help to reduce the disparity between rich and poor.

Nahid said the government initiatives like development of science research in educational institutions, massive expansion of information technology, free text books distribution, set up multimedia classroom, talent-pool scholarship and stipends are playing vital role to enhance the science education.

He hoped that the half of the total students will come under information technology education as it is considered a prerequisite to become a develop country by 2041.

Principal of Scholastica School at Uttara branch Brigadier General (Retd) Kawsar Ahmed presided over the function.

About 500 students from 45 educational institutions are taking part in the fair.
