SUST team wins int’l apps contest, to visit NASA

A teachers-students squad of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology has recently won championship award of International Space Apps Challenge, a computer application development contest supported by NASA.The organisers have invited the team to visit the USA and NASA head office from July 21 to 23. 

The squad, named Team Olik, comprises SUST computer science and engineering assistant professor Biswapriya Chakrabarty as the mentor, geology and environmental studies student Abu Sabiq Mahdi as the team leader, and physics department student SM Rafi Adnan, geology and environmental studies students Kazi Mainul Islam and Sabbir Hasan. 
Olik won the championship award in the event of ‘Best Use of Data’ for developing an application. 

Assistant professor Biswapriya Chakrabarty said that NASA had invited the team through emails on May 29 and on June 12. 

‘We have been informed in the mail that we have to reach Washington DC by July 20 to attend NASA events scheduled to be held between July 21 and 23,’ the Team Olik mentor said.

Abu Sabiq Mahdi said during their trip, they will observe the launch of rocket Falcon 9 of CRS-18 mission on July 21.
