Teacher jailed for forgery

A high school teacher named Delwar Hossain at Islampur upazila in Jamalpur district was sent to jail for his fraudulent act in grabbing Tk 250,000 from 23 individuals of poor farmer families in the name of insurance services.

On Tuesday morning, the Jamalpur district court asked to sent Delwar to jail when he appear the court seeking bail in a case in this regard.

Delwar was an assistant teacher at Balidah High School.

Delwar was charged for luring a number of poor farmer family members of Balidah village with possible profit against different insurance schemes of Islami Life Insurance Company. At one stage, he managed to collect Tk 250,000 from 23 farmers including Golam Mostofa, Rafiqul Islam, Ahalu Sheikh, Tamsha Ali, Khuki Begum, Rowshan Ara, Arvan Begum and Sulekha Begum without giving them any receipt.

Unable to obtain a receipt from Delwar for the money paid, Golam Mostofa filed a case at Jamalpur district court against three individuals including Delwar and his wife Aleya Begum.

Md Reazul Islam Selim, the headmaster of the school acknowledged the situation and said that there was an attempt for an amicable settlement but it failed since the parties could not reach a consensus.
