UIU student abducted, ransom sought

Suspected kidnappers have abducted a private university student from Dhaka and demanded Tk 10 lakh ransom from his family for his release.

Enamul Haque Olen, 23, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at United International University (UIU) went traceless yesterday, family said.

He started out from his home in Mohammadpur in the morning and was never heard from since, his mother Fatema Chowdhury said. His mobile phone was unreachable.

Around 10:00pm last night, a phone call came from Olen's personal number and an unknown voice demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom for his release.

Fatema Chowdhury filed a diary with Badda Police Station today, Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star this afternoon. “Police are trying to catch the abductors.”
