Writ seeks stay on DU ‘Gha’ unit admission process

Desk Report |

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking a stay order on the admission procedure of ‘Gha’ unit for 2018-2019 academic session under Social Science Faculty of Dhaka University (DU).

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ challenging the legitimacy of the process after it was alleged that the exam of the said unit was taken on a leaked question paper. Vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University, Dean of the Social Science Faculty and Education Secretary were made respondents.

Yunus Ali Akand said, “The bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal is likely to hear the petition today (Sunday).”

The admission test for ‘Gha’ unit was held on October 12 and the results were published on October 16. Fourteen images of handwritten question papers of the entry tests were spread on social media around 9:17 am on Friday, 43 minutes prior to the beginning of the exam.

Later on October 13, the DU authorities formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the alleged question leak for the entry test.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, however, said the incident was not a question paper leak, but the probe committee was formed to investigate whether there was any digital forgery or not.
